Our Faith at First.
What We Believe
When a person is baptized into the family of First Baptist Tulsa, they make a simple confession of faith: “Jesus is Lord” (Romans 10:9-10). This statement is a reminder that our faith is not based on principles but rather on a person—Jesus Christ. At the center of our faith is a restored relationship with God through Jesus.
Throughout the centuries Christians have given expression to the details of this relationship through creeds and confessions. One of the earliest and most accurate of these expressions is called The Apostles’ Creed. This creed still represents the essence of what followers of Jesus believe.
The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.
Baptists have periodically given expression to our faith through the writing of confessions. First Baptist Tulsa recommends the 1963 version of The Baptist Faith and Message. A printed copy is available through the pastor’s office at 918.594.5019.
