Christmas Eve Candlelight Service

One of our most beloved Christmas hymns, O Come, All Ye Faithful, was written and then translated by two men living 100 years apart. John Frances Wade wrote the music and penned the lyrics in Latin in 1743. As the song was passed down among Christian musicians, Rev. Frederick Oakeley, being deeply moved by the lyrics almost 100 years after they were written, translated them from Latin to English for his London church. He worked to perfect the translation and in 1845, Adeste fidelis, laete triumphantes, in Oakeley’s finished translation was sung, O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant! We sing these same beautiful words today!
