In November, we highlight and celebrate missions at First Baptist Tulsa. Every year we set a goal to give sacrificially towards a year-end missions offering. For 2019, that goal is $235,000, and every penny of that will go out of our church to the mission field. But how is that money spent?
Sixty percent of what is given through the missions offering goes to fund missions work through the International Mission Board (IMB). Currently, the IMB employs 3,678 missionaries living and working among the 4.5 billion unreached people in the world. Tens of thousands of people are coming to Christ, being baptized and discipled because of Southern Baptists’ collective efforts of giving through the IMB.
Twenty-two percent of the missions offering goes to the North American Mission Board (NAMB). NAMB is invested in mercy ministry, evangelism, church planting, chaplaincy and disaster relief all across North America. Our offering goes to further each of those efforts.
Ten percent of the missions offering goes toward Oklahoma Baptist state mission and ministry initiatives. These include such things as Christ-centered addiction recovery, support for foster care ministries, prison and jail ministries, among others. Pooling our resources with other Oklahoma churches helps us to achieve more together.
Finally, eight percent of the missions offering goes toward Global Hunger Relief (GHR). GHR funds are used in Gospel-centered hunger projects that share God’s love in both word and deed. Twenty percent of GHR funds are used in North America and eighty percent are used to meet needs around the world.
First Baptist Tulsa’s mission offering is being used in strategic ways to further the Kingdom all over the world. I pray that we each prayerfully consider our part in reaching our goal.
You can give several ways: place money in the offering plate by using a “world mission offering” envelope (located in the window ledges in the worship center), give by using our church app (available on the play or app store), give on our website (tulsafbc.org/give), or you can text the word “give” to (918) 707-8674. Make sure to designate “world missions offering” when using electronic giving options.
